Frequently Asked Questions
Hana's Little Garden by Hikari Studio
Where should a complete beginner start?
Begin with Hiragana in the Kana garden. Tap each character to hear it, then practice recognition before moving to Katakana, essential kanji, and N5 lessons.
How do I type Japanese in the lessons?
Type ordinary romaji with an English keyboard. Completed syllables convert as you type: ko becomes こ. Type nn for the standalone ん. Suggestions show up to three common completions; for example, typing o ha can suggest おはよう.
Why does one kanji have several readings?
Kanji can have on'yomi and kun'yomi readings that change by word. The Hear button starts with the most common reading. Use the reading control to move through alternatives one at a time instead of hearing every reading in one burst.
Why can です appear before the end?
です normally finishes a polite clause. When the lesson is teaching the word itself, Japanese quotation marks identify it as the object: 今日は「です」を練習します means “Today we will practice ‘desu.’” The sentence itself correctly ends with します.
How do the multiple-choice lessons work?
Each question presents no more than three choices. Select an answer, read the immediate correction, and continue. The smaller choice set keeps practice quick while still testing recall.
How does pronunciation audio work?
Hikari Path first requests its hosted Japanese voice. Previously generated clips are cached by Cloudflare for consistent playback. If hosted audio is unavailable, the browser may temporarily use a Japanese device voice so the lesson still works.
Does pronunciation practice record me continuously?
No. The microphone activates only after you choose a recording action and grant browser permission. You can remove microphone permission at any time in browser settings.
Do I need an account?
No. Core study progress can remain on the current device. An account is used for features such as cross-device progress, saved items, and subscription management when those services are available.
Why is my progress different on another device?
Unsigned progress is stored locally in that browser. Sign in with the same account on both devices to use supported synchronization features.
How do favorites and learned kanji work?
Use the heart to save an item and Mark Learned to record progress. Filters help you return to saved or unfinished material.
What do N5 through N1 mean?
They are study paths aligned with increasing Japanese proficiency. N5 introduces foundations; N1 contains advanced reading and language. They are learning guides and do not guarantee an examination result.
Is the translation always word-for-word?
No. Japanese often omits subjects and uses context differently from English. Hikari Path provides a natural meaning alongside kana and romaji so you can study both structure and real usage.
How do I report an error or security concern?
Use the contact form. For a security concern, begin the message with SECURITY and do not include passwords, payment information, secret keys, or sensitive recordings.
Subscriptions, cancellation & refunds
Can I cancel at any time?
Yes. Sign in, open Account, and choose Cancel renewal. No reason is required. Cancellation stops future renewals. You keep premium access until the end of your current paid period, unless that payment is refunded. During a trial, cancel before the trial ends to avoid the first charge.
I cancelled on my renewal date, but the charge already went through. Can I get a refund?
Yes, if you request it within 72 hours of the renewal charge and have not used premium lessons, practice, or downloads after that charge. This applies to monthly and annual renewals. Cancel renewal in Account and email support@hikari-path.com with your account email and charge date. Cancellation alone does not automatically refund a payment. We use the time you send your request, even if our reply comes later.
What if I have already used premium or cancel several days later?
If you have used premium after renewal, or your refund request arrives more than 72 hours after the renewal charge, the ordinary renewal refund does not apply. Cancellation still stops future renewals; you can use the remaining paid time. We do not routinely refund or prorate unused days. For example, using premium for five days after a renewal and then cancelling stops your next renewal but does not refund the current period. The first-payment offer, billing-error and service-failure exceptions, and mandatory legal rights below still apply.
Is my first payment different?
Yes. Request a full refund within 7 days of your first monthly or annual payment, once per customer. This includes your first payment after the trial. The no-premium-use condition for renewal refunds does not apply to this separate first-payment offer.
How do the trial, prices, and payment methods work?
The first monthly subscription offers a 7-day trial with an authorized payment method required. After the trial, it automatically renews at US$24.99/month unless cancelled before the trial ends. Annual subscriptions cost US$239.90/year, charged in full at purchase, with no trial. Applicable taxes are shown at checkout. We accept supported cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Cash App Pay where available. We do not offer checks, manual pay-later invoices, bank-transfer subscriptions, or buy-now-pay-later plans. An automatic-payment invoice or receipt is simply your payment record.
What about a duplicate charge or a service problem?
We correct billing errors, including duplicate charges and incorrect charges after a valid cancellation. Significant unresolved access failures may qualify for an appropriate refund for the affected period. These exceptions and mandatory consumer rights remain available outside the ordinary refund windows.
What happens after a refund, and where can I get help?
A full refund of your current subscription payment ends the refunded premium access and future renewal; your free account remains. Refunds go to the original payment method. A partial service-failure refund does not itself stop renewal. Contact support@hikari-path.com if cancellation is unavailable or you need refund help. Do not send card numbers, security codes, or passwords. Read the full policy.
